This is a weekly listing of announcements and news sent via e-mail on Mondays (except holidays) to all College of Design faculty and staff. To raise money towards our $8,500 goal for United Way of Story County the college will hold a pizza and pop sale this Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be our last college United Way fundraiser of the semester, and we need volunteers to sign up. Pizza and Pop Volunteer Signup

Lecture & Workshop on Tools for Research & Scholarship

The Office of the Vice President for Research and the University Library will co-host a lecture (4:10-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23) and workshop (10:30 a.m. - noon Tuesday, Oct. 24) to support rigorous, transparent and publicly accessible research and scholarship. Read more and register

ISU ADVANCE WORKSHOP on Faculty Searches

Faculty may still register for a workshop on unconscious bias in faculty searches, co-hosted by ISU ADVANCE and the Cornell Interactive Theatre Ensemble. Two sessions will be offered: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24. Read more and register online

Human Subjects Training

Iowa State's Institutional Review Board (IRB), part of the Office for Responsible Research, anticipates a January transition to an electronic system for submission, review and maintenance of applications. Researchers can help now by completing the CITI training  modules to renew their human subjects training (necessary because prior certification will not be transferred to the new system) and closing any projects that are complete. DATUM Silent Auction Donations

DATUM, a student architectural publication, seeks donations of work from students, faculty and community members for a silent auction in November. Donations may be finished drawings or moments of process, sketches or models that could be appreciated by another. Proceeds will support publication of the DATUM student journal and future activities. Read more

Honors, Awards & Publications

Ulrike Passe

Ulrike Passe received the AIA Iowa Educator Award from the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects at its fall convention in Des Moines at the end of September. A full announcement is forthcoming.

Andrea Wheeler

Andrea Wheeler and two architecture graduate students co-authored a book chapter recently published in The Handbook of Sustainability Science and Research (Springer Press). Read more
