AMES, Iowa — Simone Capra, a registered architect in Italy and a new architecture instructor for the Iowa State University College of Design Rome Program, will speak about the production of innovation in a lecture Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the ISU College of Design.

Capra will present "Looking at the World to Produce Innovation: Every Time Is (Almost) the First Time" at 5:30 p.m. in Kocimski Auditorium, room 101 College of Design. Part of the ISU College of Design Rome Program Lecture Series, his talk is free and open to the public.

Capra is a founding member of stARTT (studio di architettura e trasformazioni territoriali — Office for Architecture and Territory Transformations) in Rome. The firm’s name highlights a specific professional approach that reflects on the relationship between architecture and territory, where the project is considered part of a larger transformation affecting the social and economic fabrics, urban textures and image of landscape, Capra said. stARTT focuses on manmade environmental transformation at different scales of intervention and at different degrees of complexity: landscape, territory, city, urban planning, public works and private architecture.

Its work was presented in "Fundamentals," the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2014.

Capra holds a PhD/Villard d' Honnecourt international doctorate in architecture from the Università luav di Venezia and a degree in architecture with honors from Roma Tré University. Prior to founding stARTT in 2008, he worked for several offices including Torres-Martinez-Tu y Lapena Architects, b720 Fermin Vazquez Arquitectos, 2tr architettura and APST. He taught architectural design studio and architectural drawing for the ISU College of Design Rome Program in spring 2016 and organized a collaborative workshop between Iowa State students and students from Roma Tre University.
