About the speaker
Rothrock has owned and operated Plainview Pottery in Los Angeles since 1975. He was the head potter for Mark Hines Creations from 1978 to 1989 before devoting himself full time to his own work, much of which has been for the decorator-designer industry.

Pieces as large as 40 inches tall and 30 inches in diameter have been placed in homes from California to Saudi Arabia. His work has been used on the sets of movies and television programs and has furnished the penthouse suites of the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. He recently completed an order of large temple jars for a hotel in Hong Kong.

Rothrock has taught ceramics at the McGroarty Cultural Arts Center, Tujunga, California; and Idyllwild Elementary School and Idyllwild Arts Academy, California; and has served as an instructor and studio manager for the Idyllwild Arts' Hot Clay Summer Ceramics Program. Since 2011, he and his wife, Chinlee Chang, have lived in Idyllwild. They collaborate on functional ceramics with highly decorative majolica finishes and co-teach a handbuilding and majolica class at the arts academy.

Rothrock holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of La Verne, California.
