Interior Design

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Interior Design here in the College of Design!

This fall, our studios are offering a number of very exciting projects for our students. Sophomores are working on an individual project all semester long beginning with the Des Moines Art Center and ending with an interior in Morrill Hall on the Iowa State campus. Juniors are designing a clothing boutique situated in Rome for fashion design students from the ISU apparel, merchandising and design program. (Those studying in Italy with the College of Design Rome Program are embarking on the same project for peers in the fashion design program at IED Madrid – Istituto Europeo di Design).

Seniors are the first interior design student group ever asked to help the University Architect with proposed renovation concepts for the College of Design, a mammoth undertaking that promises to break some new ground in learning environments.

And our graduate students are collaborating with architecture graduate students on a joint hospitality design project along the Panama Canal, in a development that mandates both locally sourced sustainability and increased biodiversity from each site.

By all measures, this will be an exciting semester, and we hope you will enjoy being a part of it.
