Returning/Re-entry or Reinstatement
Returning vs. Re-entry
Returning: One term has elapsed since you were enrolled (excluding summer sessions).
Re-entering: You were not enrolled for the previous two academic terms (excluding summer sessions).
Students who desire reinstatement to the College of Design after having been dismissed from Iowa State must submit the Request for Reinstatement Form and a re-entry application if necessary (for requirements, see the Returning, Re-entry: Undergraduate Students section of the Registrar's Office website). Please be aware that reinstatement is not automatic.
Reinstatement materials must be received by the college's Academic Standards Committee by 5 p.m. on the following dates:
|Fall 2015||Monday, June 29, 2015|
|Spring 2016||Monday, November 16, 2015|
|Summer Session I, 2016||Monday, March 21, 2015|
|Summer Session II, 2016||Monday, April 11, 2015|
Complete details are available in the Request for Reinstatement Form.
Undergraduate and non-degree undergraduate students planning to return to Iowa State University after an absence of 12 months or more must complete the Undergraduate Re-entry Form (PDF). The form should be completed and returned to the Office of the Registrar well in advance of the opening of the term for which re-entry is desired. Detailed information is available when you download/open the PDF form.
If you are a re-entering graduate student, do not complete the re-entry form. Go to the Re-entry, Graduate Students section of the Registrar's Office website for more information.
Students with a bachelor's degree who wish to take supporting graduate-level coursework prior to applying for graduate degree admissions should not complete the Undergraduate Re-entry Form, but should request an application for non-degree graduate admission.
