About the VRC

The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) is an instructional resource of over 200,000 35mm slides documenting major works in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, planning, art, craft and design. Its primary function is to provide College of Design faculty with visual materials in support of College of Design courses.

We are always adding images of contemporary projects in art, design, architecture and landscape architecture, and we encourage your image requests. The VRC has six lighted slide sorters, lighted countertops, and four slide projectors for previewing your lectures or sorting your personal slide collections.

The VRC also maintains Plato's Cave, a cooperative effort with College of Design faculty to provide a significant, diverse and vital online resource for undergraduate study and research. This shared resource comprises a large database of critical images and descriptive data available through most on-campus computers and ppp connections to Iowa State University. Plato's Cave includes original images from faculty collections and from the Visual Resources Collection.

All materials within Plato's Cave and the Visual Resource Collection are protected by copyright and may not be duplicated or copied in any fashion.
