Spring Semester

 

Le Mars West Floyd Park Concept PlanLA 202 - Site Design I
Associate Professors Heidi Hohmann and Michael Martin

Landscape Architecture students held a community meeting and developed concept plans for further development of West Floyd Park in Le Mars. Student plans included ideas for a dog park, a regulation 18-hole disc golf course, and an RV park.

 


Colo, McCallsburg, Zearing, and Colo-NESCO Schools Planning
CRP, Associate Professor Susan Bradbury
Planning students researched interactions of the cities of Colo, McCallsburg and Zearing with the Colo-NESCO school district. A comprehensive plan was created for use by all three parties. Professor Bradbury is developing scholarship in the area of cooperation between cities and their affiliated school district. This project will continue into fall 2010.

Corning: The Iowa House

Architecture students created designs for an affordable and energy-efficient house design for the city of Corning. This "Iowa House" will serve as a prototype for future projects in both Corning and throughout the state and will serve as a state model for affordable, sustainable single-family housing.

Landscape Architecture students and practitioners created a concept plan for redevelopment of the Hardin County Courthouse Square, after a severe hailstorm in August 2009 damaged many mature trees.

King Irving Neighborhood Empowerment Garden, Des Moines

Associate Professor Carl Rogers
Landscape architecture students continued their work with citizens in the King Irving neighborhood of Des Moines to create artwork, public gathering space, and a community garden.

Fairfield Sustainability Planning
Assistant Professor Carlton Basmadjian
Planning students worked in tandem with Communities Extension Field Specialist Scott Timm to create a sustainability plan for the city of Fairfield. Students gained expertise in creating a comprehensive plan as well as principles of sustainability.

Architecture graduate students explored the French Icarian colony near Corning and developed a plan for creating an efficient kitchen space for the French Icarian Colony of Adams County.

Graphic Design Students designed a new entry sign, signage system, and wayfinding system for the Dallas County Fairgrounds. Graduate student Curt Englehart worked with the students to create a concept plan for future development of the fairgrounds and Extension Office.
